Summary

During the period from 1st April 2016 – 31st March 2017, Child Health Foundation (CHF) continued to implement programs for the benefit of healthcare services providers and beneficiaries. This year focus was towards capacity building activities by organizing courses such as Advance Vaccinology Courses ADVAC & Essential Vaccinology Courses (EVAC).

Free Blood Transfusion for Thalassemia patients

Blood transfusion center for Thalassemic patients is operational at Deep Children Hospital and Research Centre, Gandhidham with support of Child Health Foundation. 10 registered patients received around 79 transfusions over the year.

Advance Vaccinology Course (ADVAC) [6th June - 12th June], 2016, New Delhi National Capital Region

Child Health Foundation and the International Clinical Epidemiology Network (CHF-INCLEN) organized Advanced Vaccinology Course (ADVAC) in India. Over 50 EPI Managers, Pediatricians & Public Health Professionals from across the country participated in the course. The course was supported by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. ADVAC was a 7-day long course. The courses comprised of lectures, interactive sessions, breakout sessions, group works etc. The comprehensive course provided training in epidemiology, immunology, disease surveillance, and vaccine safety and regulation. Core lectures highlighted vaccination trends, challenges, and innovations specific to India. First Dr. Panna Choudhury Oration was delivered by Prof. David Bloom during the course. Voting pads were utilized for maximum audience interaction.

Polio Eradication Endgame: Tactical use of IPV -23rd & 24th July, 2016, Taj Coromandel, Chennai

Child Health Foundation in collaboration with UNICEF and Indian Academy of Pediatrics organized a meeting for medical professionals from across the country to present rationale for use of fractional dose of IPV and to update them about the Polio Eradication program. The meeting was held at Hotel Taj Coromandal Chennai, on 23rd & 24th July, 2016. The workshop cum seminar was attended by 128 participants.

The faculty included Dr. T Jacob John (CHF), Dr. Sunil Bahl (WHO), Dr. Pradeep Haldar (MOHFW), Dr. Abhijeet Anand (CDC), Dr. Prem Singh (UNICEF), Dr. Vipin Vashishtha (IAP). Dr T Jacob John wrapped the meeting by highlighting the important information and also gave take away messages which can be disseminated to all.

Essential Vaccinology Course (EVAC), 19th Feb-22nd Feb 2017, Westin Sohna, Delhi NCR.
