Why a National Platform?

Vaccine hesitancy – reluctance or refusal to vaccinate despite the availability of vaccines – is a growing challenge in India. Despite the availability of safe and efficacious vaccines to protect against preventable diseases like pneumonia, diarrhea, measles, diphtheria, and others, many are either reluctant or refuse to vaccinate.

There has been progress toward mitigating vaccine hesitancy both at the national and regional levels. However, vaccine hesitancy, in general, remains a challenge in some areas in India.

There is an urgent need for a national dialogue with diverse stakeholders to address issues of vaccine hesitancy in India and to bring multiple regional- and state-level efforts together into a national-level Community of Practice (CoP) with the shared mission to build vaccine confidence in the country.
